2-0 Road Win Over The Pleasanton Rage Clinch Historic Firsts For The Cargo
Pleasanton- Behind goals from Vanessa Penuna and Mika Sayfurahman, the Stockton Cargo clinched their first ever USL W NorCal Division Title and a spot in the USL W League Playoffs Presented by VensureHR.
After a defensive struggle in the first half, where both teams had defenses that clamped down on any offense, things opened up in the second half. Vanessa Penuna, fresh off the second hat trick in Cargo history vs. Academica, was on the receiving end of a long pass into the box and deftly played a shot past the Pleasanton Rage Goalkeeper in the 65th minute for her 5th goal of the year to give the Cargo the 1-0 lead. Chippy, physical play from Pleasanton resulted in two yellow cards as the Cargo Defense salted away the lead as time ticked off the clock. As Pleasanton continued to push for the equalizer, the Cargo caught the rage in a counter attack and Mika Sayfurahman dribbled around the Pleasanton Goalkeeper on a break away and easily put away her 6th goal of the year to seal the 2-0 victory for the Cargo.
A tenacious Cargo Defense helped give Goalkeeper Amanda Leal her 3rd consecutive clean sheet, as she faced no real threats in the 2nd half of play.
With the win, the Cargo remain undefeated at 9-0-2.
The Cargo close out their USL W League Regular Season at home, on Saturday the 28th vs. San Juan SC, 7p at Knoles Field at the University of the Pacific.
