Win Moves Stockton into a tie for First Place in the USL W League NorCal Division
Stockton– The Stockton Cargo did it again, thrilling the crowd of Cargo faithful by coming from behind from deficits of 2-0 and 3-2, to pull out a comeback victory 4-3 vs. the Pleasanton Rage on Saturday Night.
The Pleasanton Rage struck first within the first minute of the Match on a goal by Spanish veteran Marta Pelegrin, followed by a goal by Trinidad Quiroz to give the Rage the early 2-0 lead.
The Cargo stormed back in the first half, with a goal by Vannesa Penuna, her second of the season, in the 23rd minute. Minutes later, Cargo Veteran Yareli Hernandez scored her first of the season to tie things up at 2 headed into the half.
The Pleasanton Rage would once again take the lead 3-2 minutes into the Second Half as Trinidad Quiroz again scored on a long range shot into the upper left corner of the net. The score would remain 3-2 until Cargo sub Jamia Fields entered the game. Fields would score her first goal of the season in the 77th minute of the match, and notch the game winner, her second of the season, in the 88th minute of the match. The Cargo defense saw out the rest of the match, giving the Cargo the thrilling 4-3 victory. With the victory, the Cargo move to 6-0-2 on the season, tied for First in the USL W League NorCal Division, with four matches left in the regular season.
Jamia Fields earned the Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers Player of the Game designation with her late game heroics.
The Stockton Cargo now have three games on the road: 6/18 at California Storm (Sacramento), 6/20 at Academica SC (Turlock) and 6/23 at Pleasanton Rage, before finishing the season at home on 6/28 vs. San Juan SC, with a potential birth to the USL W Leage Playoffs, and a Division Championship, on the line.
